The photographic collection in 'Soundings' contains 36 b&w 35mm film based images of 28 individual Avebury stones.
Constructed approximately 5,000 years ago the neolithic age Avebury stone circles were Britain's largest, and comprise its third biggest henge site.
Avebury was originally comprised of 600 carefully placed and locally sourced un-worked sarsen stones; but due to destruction beginning in the early 14th century, that number has been radically reduced. Thanks to Englishman Alexander Keiller's restoration work in the 1930's, there are 76 stones in various states of repair to be seen today.
In addition to the photographs, there is a short background text on Avebury, and a bibliography.
A map of the main stone circles has been added to this more portable sized book.
