Randy Efros - Schnitzer Steel

In 1990 I made a long photo trip with Brett Weston from Carmel traveling through Yosemite and across the Tioga Pass Road and down to Mono Lake. We then drove north into Oregon working at Crater Lake and the Three Sisters area. This was Brett’s last big photo excursion and the final time he was to visit and photograph at many of his favorite places. We made an overnight stop in Eugene where we stayed with his friend George Beltran. The next day we drove and worked along the Oregon Coast to Astoria and then on to Portland where we stayed with his good friend Jerry Robinson. Jerry hosted a print showing soirée for Brett and one of the interesting people I met that evening was Dr. Leonard Schnitzer, head of Schnitzer Steel, which had a big yard on the Willamette River. Leonard invited us to come photograph at the steel yard the next day. We both had a fabulous time with our cameras and I was able to make quite a number of 8x10 color negatives.
