This special issue of the RMJ features three fascinating articles that are sure to intrigue and inform. First off, we have another installment of Ralph Pickard’s series on material culture and memory in 20th c. Germany. This article dives into the history of the German concentration camps that remained active from 1945-50 in the SBZ under the control of the Soviet Administration, and their security services.

The winner of this quarter’s book prize is Samuel Andrus, whose article, “The International Criminal Court’s Cases Against the Perpetrators of Mass Atrocity in Timbuktu, Mali,” explores the lasting impact of the historic court cases that arose as a result of the human rights abuses carried out by the Ansar Dine in Mali after Gaddafi’s removal in 2011.

Finally, we have a profound contribution by Joel Forman. His findings, presented in his “The One-Third Rule of Genocide,” have deep implications, and provide a thought-provoking analysis of the phenomenon of genocide across the 19th and 20th centuries.
