Fifty- eight year old Ada Francisco had been having a run of bad luck. She owned a farm located on what was then called the "Johnstown-Vail Mills Poad", now Route 29, about a mile east of Johnstown. Her husband, Ralph, was killed two years earlier in October,1963 when he was caught in a machine loading corn into a silo. Ada had continued the milk dairy business herself thereafter.
