A Fort Plain deputy killed a man outside the Pyramid Dance Hall located just west of St. Johnsville in August of 1934.
It was disclosed at the inquest, which followed, that a 22-year old Frankfort man named Joseph Trippen had failed to heed a reprimand to halt from Deputy Brown, who claimed the youth was disrespectful to a girl at the dance. Trippen was running from the officer when the shot was fired. He was taken immediately to Doctor Feldstein's office and declared dead.
