Jo Ann Santangelo (josanphoto)
Jo Ann Santangelo’s obsession with documenting life began as a young girl growing up in Boston’s “Little Italy” The North End.
After relocating to Austin, TX in 2006, Jo Ann explored the city for two years on her bike and photographed Austin’s un-seen faces. “Austin Seen” became her first photo essay and was exhibited in many of Austin’s coffeehouses & galleries.
In August 2008, Jo Ann moved to New York to attend her first formal education program at the International Center of Photography. During her studies, she was awarded The New York Times Foundation Scholarship and interned with Eugene Richards.
After two years of living in Brooklyn and documenting LGBT Veterans and capturing NYC’s late night Christopher Street scene Jo Ann moved back to Austin in December 2010 with her partner Kate and their two furry orange children.
Jo Ann's works have been featured in El País Semanal, De Volkskrant, Mother Jones, The Guardian, New York Magazine, The Advocate, Food & Wine, The Washington Post, Austin American Statesman.
