Ed Passi (edpassi)
Ed Passi, an American writer/artist/photographer from the West Coast, was engaged for years in publication arts, freelance writing, field photography, and graphic production. He had worked as art director, writer, marketing communications specialist, pressman, photojournalist, publisher/editor, and graphic designer, and also taught classes in graphic production, along with contract freelance assignments. Ed was employed in various industries including publishing, advertising, airline/travel, aerospace technologies, education, industrial manufacturing, and health organization. He published a local history newspaper in 1995 which was archived by the historical society, and showcased a photographic exhibit in the early '90s. His magazine, Creatives Circuit was published in 2014, and he completed Dawn Break, an Impressionist art painting in 2011, his genre inspired in part by his travels in Europe. He also became a member of the writers’ group South Bay Scribes in 2019 and was a participant in their signature event. Multifaceted and a self-styled freethinker, Ed’s philosophies leaned towards the eclectic rather than the centrist. “I am the odd man out,” he noted back in the ’60s, “a league of my own. I set my standard and can hold my own.” And his scoff at cynics everywhere: “Many are quick to judge from the confines of their own limitations.” His own “oblique abstraction” was his approach to creative composition. He garnered recognition awards for his works, and had resumed his writing pursuits and freelancing. He wrote series of critiques, essays in his old blog site and also scripted the docu-video, Revisits in Black, circa 2017. A registered nonpartisan, he stated in 2020: “I weigh in on the merits of right or wrong, over the politics of left or right. Greater good overrides persuasions.” His stance on aspirations, in 2013: “Fulfillment is when you need only to impress no one but yourself.” And on personal life, in 2007: "Moments, more than seasons, are what we take home with us. The reminiscent essence of the fleeting experience is timeless gift." Travels aside, Ed briefly stayed in early times in New York and Virginia, but lived mostly in the West Coast. His experiences assimilated trailblazing, braving the elements, and exploring possibilities. “Life is a mosaic,” he wrote in 2009. “The pursuits, exploits, and events converge amid twists and turns, crossroads, or tempestuous change.”
