Susan Farricielli is a sculptor works in Branford, CT. "I used to pass by the Nutmeg Steel building on my daily runs and would often glance into the old factory. It was around the mid 1980’s when the factory was permanently closed. The foundry used a Quonset hut to store the wooden patterns used for the sand castings. In 2001 when Nutmeg Steel was sold and condemned, I was able to salvage many of the wooden patterns before they were destroyed." This magazine documents the history of the foundry and the sculptural artwork I was inspired to make honoring the industrial history of New England and the foundry Nutmeg Steel.
