Sculpting Science started in 2014 when Robby Roberson, professor with ASU School of Life Sciences, and Susan Beiner, professor with ASU School of Art, began a collaborative study to examine ceramic surfaces at high resolution using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Their hope was that these interactions would result in ongoing exchanges of positive and synergistic ideas, creativity and knowledge to produce provocative and aesthetically pleasing works of art that would be displayed within the ASU community. They also hoped to enrich the lives of students, faculty and of citizens in the greater community.
