Author Clyde Heppner is one of a handful of fine art photographers to apply principles from ancient Chinese landscape painting to photographic art. The Ancients’ Views book is a series of 20 photographic compositions from the Chinese gardens of Suzhou and the Huangshan Mountains (Yellow Mountains) in China. These locations are magical; not surprisingly, over the centuries, Chinese master painters were often inspired by them and painted them as both artistic and culturally symbolic icons.
Jason C. Kuo, Professor of Art History and Archaeology at the University of Maryland, affirmed, “Heppner has successfully captured the spirit of his subject matter... The boundaries between the ancients and the contemporaries, and between China and the West, have been magically blurred.”
Forewords by George DeWolfe and Jason C. Kuo provide further insight into the work produced by Heppner. Twenty beautiful and inspiring images are presented in three categories--The Gardens, The Mountains, and The Canyon.
