Picturing Los Gatos was inspired by the exhibition Picturing Place (June 6 – September 8, 2013) that presented two contemporary photographers’ explorations of their environments.

Picturing Los Gatos represents a compelling intersection of these purposes: it is a present-day survey of the town from two unique, artistic perspectives. The concept for this book project came from a conversation about how picturing Los Gatos might look from “insider” and “outsider” perspectives of two uniquely talented photographic artists. We have been longtime enthusiasts of our “local talent” Brian Taylor, and our visitor, Gregory Schaffer’s thought provoking work about the Seattle area was exhibited in Picturing Place.

The beauty of Los Gatos, nestled in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains, will continue to be defined by our experiences of the place. Here are two, and we hope they ignite your enthusiasm for looking.
