THE GARAGE DOOR STOREY is the quintessential Language Photography text, of Saunders come down from the Milk Crate with 11 color negatives recruited as pages in signature to record and transliterate the structure of meaning in latex paint's surface adhesion upon vagaries of particle board; beginning as prose, documentary identification and proceeding onto an epic poetry - but what is TGDS a poetry of? This the lucky hands beholding the original BOOKLET never pause to wonder. Instead thumbs drawn to caress and slide and linger as if before prayers at the wordless speech of the photographs while the Storey crumbles, furls, chips, reveals and proclaims itself unable to resist the call for its own demise, the grim Scraper to come that someday soon will make a mess of it all, swept, collected and dumped into the nearest Sunset Scavenger Dumpster – it is Fate that TGDS depicts, and though this facsimile is a paltry shadow of the real thing – it is saddle stitched with pictures of saddle stitches.
