Many of these photographs were taken in Wissahickon Park in Philadelphia. The Wissahickon is only a few blocks from my house and I hike there throughout the year. At first, for about eighteen months, I photographed the same vista over the creek about every three weeks. But these images did not capture what I love about this park. I spent another year taking photos along the back trails inside the forest, but these photos were not wide enough, or sharp enough to capture the feeling of being in the forest. So I began to take massive panoramics and printing them large. I soon realized that the photographs needed people in them in order to give them scale. So for the last two years, I've been photographing runners and bikers in Wissahickon Park and Fairmount Park along the Schuylkill River. These photographs are sixty inches by forty inches or are sixty inches square. They are made by combining 25 to 50 separate photographs into a single panorama. They cover an angular view between 165 to 120 degrees.
