I first met Mekka Al-Shawi a few months ago. Mekka gave an enlightening presentation about queerness in the Middle East, specifically in Lebanon. That was one of the most informative workshops I've attended in quite some time. I learned that Mekka is Black and Arab. This unique intersectionality was, and still is, something we rarely hear about and engage with.
