Multiplication Lyric Book w/Language Arts Extensions

This is the companion to the Smart Shorties Hip Hop Multiplication songs and is dedicated to students learning the lyrics and math facts. Since all lyrics were written by children and faithfully reprinted, included are interpretations of the non-traditional phrases. These Language Arts Extensions are designed to increase teacher confidence in the hip hop genre of language as well as provide an opportunity for class discussion and investigation of grammar concepts. According to the National Council of Teachers of English, “Students adjust their use of spoken, written, and visual language (e.g., conventions, style, vocabulary) to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences and for different purposes.” The purpose of Smart Shorties is to enrich the already standing curriculum through an exciting and motivating way to capture students’ attention to math as well as grammar.
