Not only is the Southdown one of the six core Down breeds of sheep, this breed forms the foundation of the group, being the oldest and having contributed to the development of the other five. Southdown fleeces are on the fine end of medium wools and tend to be unusually crimpy and bouncy. They're fun to work with. This study looks at Southdown history, including issues of size (how big IS a Southdown?), where the natural colors are, and why we don't (but should) see more of it in commercial yarns.

Printed document plus free digital version; 8x8" publication. This document contains theory and practical knowledge for fiber arts enthusiasts of all skill levels. The handouts are heavily illustrated.
