Northern Pygmy Owl Family

From April until late June, we observed the various stages in the life of a Northern Pygmy Owl family, from courting, to mating, through incubation and hatching, and finally fledging and dispersing into the oak-covered hills. Four of us stationed a respectful distance from the nest--no more than one of us every other day--chronicled the activity and studied their behavior. I’ve tried to capture what we observed and learned in this little book.
