Present Histories: Do Obies Dream of Electric Sheep? Is an exhibition and print publication of New Media Art from the Intro to New Media Summer 2021 class in Studio Art at Oberlin College. The exhibition highlights works that influenced thought and production, were created in, or were inspired by the content of the course. This publication contains a spread designed by each student respectively. “Present Histories” responds directly to the overall pedagogical direction of the course which aimed to amalgamate a wide range of historical and contemporary artists, theorists, and writers into cohesive themes. Students responded directly through vigorous use of a wide array of applications, creating work in Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, Digital Archives, through a multispecies lens and by exercising collaborative approaches in Video explorations and Soundscapes. The Subheading nods to the classic science fiction novel “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep” by Philip K. Dick.
