the Little Book of Rhythm

The Experience of Rhythm Rhythm is one of three strands that make up the texture of the music lesson. The second is Pitch. The third consists of the techniques involved in performance: articulation and dynamics, and of course, reading. Finally the music lesson takes place in a context provided by the school calendar, the social studies units, language studies and mathematics. Music making is an expression of the greater rhythmic world of your students. An expressive experience of rhythm in Western music is built on an understanding of how weight and energy are distributed along the musical continuum.
