Mexico's Drug War

Not only are the terrifying drugs wars in Mexico frequent news, but they are also on the doorstep of the United States. And rarely have teachers been provided with such a compelling way to connect students’ personal choices with a major global event. Mexico’s Drug War brings the horror of the drug wars and the impact of personal decisions into the classroom. The production, export and consumption of drugs and the effort to stop this provides an opportunity to explore important concepts, such as the responsibility of the consumer in supporting production of a good, the responsibility of the citizen in a violent society, the role of terror in keeping a population compliant, and how police corruption impacts society.
