Artist Talk by RGSP featuring Shihui Zhou - March 2020
Shihui Zhou, 29 years old is a fashion and textile artist who was born and raised in Dalian, a modern city in the North-East part of China. Raised in a military family she was used to wearing and recycling her siblings’ clothes and therefore couldn’t have her own exclusive ones. This lack created later in her an enormous fascination for clothes, and developed a deep interest for garments, patterns, colors and fabrics. Clothes are perceived by Shihui as an extension of the body to which they give their soul and their own reality. She started first by studying calligraphy and painting from a young age and then graduated from the Fine Arts College of Tsinghua University, considered one of the best of China, with a bachelor’s degree in Art and Literature. After graduation in 2018 she moved to New York and began a nine-month artist residency project at the Textile Arts Center.
