For me, the studio is a place to explore color, and a variety of materials. I work with silk, canvas, paper, wire, watercolor and acrylic paint responding to material in an experimental way. My process involves an imperfect science– blending color in paint and building forms; sort of like an intuitive lab. The hand is involved, as well as heart, and imagination. I’m often looking for compelling color combinations, a type of balance, relational and overlapping forms, and edges that blur and bleed. In the three dimensional work, I'm focused on seeing around and seeing through. – Rhia Hurt
