The Black Welsh Mountain has been bred since medieval times for dark, non-fading fleeces that don't require dye. Their wool is finer, more consistent, and significantly freer of kemp than their varying white counterparts. You can find fleeces that are rough and some that are quite soft – depending on what the shepherd is breeding for. Considering these sheep involves considering absolute population (numbers of sheep) and effective population (measures of inbreeding), and ways to make the most of the genetic diversity available.

Printed document plus free digital version; 8x8" publication. This document contains theory and practical knowledge for fiber arts enthusiasts of all skill levels. The handouts are heavily illustrated.
