This is a piece of music I wrote that was inspired by a Poem written by a friend of mine while we were in High School, my friend's name was Barbara Brown. The original poem was written circa 1974 and was part of a book submitted to the Library of Congress by the poet. Barbara had asked me to come up with some music to play live as background while she was to read her poems live on a poetry program that would be broadcast from a radio station, WBAU 90.3 FM and was on the campus of Adelphi University in Garden City, Long Island, New York. This was the first poem Barbara Brown read on the air. What I played as background on guitar for Barbara's poetry was memorized with just notes of key and time signature, so I didn't have much written of what I played. Some years ago, I found the poems packed away amongst some old High School stuff. I decided to work on new music and this is the result. The new music inspired by the poem was written on June 25, 2016 and I've titled it: My Friend, My Conscience - Opus #17.
