In Pittsburgh, the proliferation of smokestacks was once a proud sign of prosperity, their monumental presence physically and psychically embedded in nearly every aspect of life. Today, after a prolonged period of economic decline, only a small percentage of those once ubiquitous smokestacks can still be found. Of those few that do remain, most sit idle and no longer functional, quiet legacies of the past. Legacy captures a variety of these remnant smokestacks as they are seen juxtaposed against their surroundings.
