Felting involves the transformation of loose fibers into a solid mass from which they cannot later be extricated. The eagerness with which different wools felt varies, from readily to resistant. We know something about how to facilitate felting, although we still don't know precisely how the process works. This discussion starts out very geeky with a history of thoughts about felting and the leading theories on why it happens. That's followed by samples of fulling/felting with swatches from a number of different breeds of sheep.

Printed document plus free digital version; 8x8" publication. This document contains theory and practical knowledge for fiber arts enthusiasts of all skill levels. The handouts are heavily illustrated.
