North of Chiang Mai, Thailand, lies the small village of Huay Pakoot. Founded around 550 years ago by two siblings, the village has been occupied by the Karen tribe since. The village is home to 60 households, 27 of which are homestays. The families speak both Thai and the local language, Pakinyaw. The tradition of raising elephants began about 130 years ago, when they were brought by Laotian traders.

In the midst of the bustling Western society, this book serves as a documentation of the culture of a people that still leads humble and hard-working lives.
