Browsing & buying

Anyone can browse and preview the magazines published on MagCloud. To complete an order you will be asked to create an account or sign in. We accept major credit cards and PayPal for payment.

During our Beta we can only ship to addresses in the United States. All magazines will be shipped in a protective plastic wrapper via USPS first class mail, and you should expect your order to arrive in about 7-10 days.

Publishing

At this time publisher accounts are by invitation only; let us know if you want to be a publisher, we would love to hear from you! If you have an existing MagCloud account, the invitation will upgrade yours to a publisher account.

We are able to offer commercial quality production at low cost due to our highly streamlined process. To achieve this we need to ask magazines to conform to the production requirements described in our Publisher Guide (PDF, or printed magazine).

The publishing steps are roughly:

  • Create a magazine on MagCloud; create a new issue; upload a PDF you have created
  • Order a printed proof -- verify your magazine before publishing!
  • Set your markup and publish your issue

The work you need to do is primarily the first step, while MagCloud makes the rest easy. Once your issue is published MagCloud will expose it to potential buyers in a number of ways:

  • in the recent issues displayed under the Home and Browse pages
  • the site's Recent Issues RSS feed found on the Browse page
  • the issue feed on your publisher home page (http://username.magcloud.com)
  • MagCloud search on the Browse page
  • the magazine's custom home page, which shows all the issues of your magazine
  • the issue's custom home page, which displays information, a page previewer, and the all important "Buy!" button

We will also work to ensure that major search engines crawl your published issues to help you maximize your audience.

Other Details

Availability

During our Beta orders can only be shipped to addresses in the United States. Publishers may reside anywhere. Publishers must have a PayPal account in order for MagCloud to pay markup earned from magazine sales. See our Terms and Conditions for additional restrictions.

Pricing

The cost of your issue to end users will be the production cost, plus shipping, plus your own publisher markup (if you specified one). MagCloud will pay you the markup for each copy that is purchased. Production cost is currently $0.20 per page, and during Beta the shipping and handling is a fixed $1.40 per copy (USPS first class mail).

Your custom publisher URL

A user with a publisher account will automatically have a custom subdomain on MagCloud.com: http://username.magcloud.com. Keep in mind that your domain will be the same as the username of your publisher account (potentially modified to ensure all characters are valid for a hostname). All your public information can be found under your custom URL, including your publisher profile, issue feed, and magazine and issue pages (mag and issue pages coming soon).

Advertising

You are welcome to include advertising in your magazine. Small to medium sized publishers often do not have easy access to advertising, and we hope MagCloud will be able to help with this in the future.
